What are Shared Corporate Services?
Shared Corporate Services is the term given to the practice of consolidating services that are not the core function of an organisation. These services, which usually include such functions as HR, finance and IT transactions, records, facilities and asset management and purchasing, can be delivered in a more efficient and effective manner through economies of scale created by centralising the functions.
By improving service and reducing costs in shared services functions, organisations are able to enhance service delivery and, in some cases, offer additional frontline services to customers.
Shared corporate services are now widely regarded as the leading practice for corporate services delivery due to the benefits of economies of scale, access to expert advice, better customer service, transparency of information and online access for users and clients.
The NSW Government has stated that its long term goal is to have a small number of shared services providers using a narrow range of technologies and fewer and simpler administrative processes.
